THE BOOKS OF ISLANDS : Christmas Everyday - 2012
"It's an isle..., beautiful as a wreck of paradise", Shelley.
Christmas Island is a remote Australian territory in the Indian Ocean, 215 miles south of Indonesia.
This litlle piece of paradise is the home for millions of endemic red crabs that are well known for their annual mass migration to the sea while another migration is taking place :
Thousands of aspiring migrants from high crisis countries such as Syria, Iraq or Sri Lanka went by the sea, challenging dangerous hazards, and are detained on the island in a very secret facility sometimes for several years.
